Taking the 29 Faces Art Challenge

Color Experiment
Day 3 – Color Experiment

I’m taking the 29 Faces Art Challenge put on by Ayla Art this year.   We agree to draw or paint a face everyday in February with a bonus day.  It can be a sketch or a full painting, journal page, etc.  We then post to our blogs or to the Facebook group page.

I wanted to take this challenge because I’ve been feeling to attached to the outcome of my drawings.  I’m not having fun and taking risks.  I’m losing the joy of creating because I’m too worried about “improving” or being concerned about what people will think.  I’m limiting myself and it’s frustrating.

Day 7 – Edward Scissorhands

I know many people taking this challenge and getting to know others.  It’s a great supportive atmosphere and I am back to having fun drawing again.  My great hope is that this month’s challenge will help me move my drawing in a different direction.  Maybe shine a bit brighter.

I’ve been doing well.  It’s Day 12 and I’m on track.  I’m posting to the FB group every day.  I made sure to have a buddy in the group to check on me and keep me going.  I’m going to do this!

I’ll be posting my favorites weekly and put a gallery together at the end of the challenge.   See ya!

    1. Thanks so much Cindy. I’m hoping this challenge will give me the momentum I need to get more serious with my art. Btw, love how you are tackling acrylic painting. Looking forward to seeing more.

  1. It is so interesting to see such beautiful work and read that you haven’t felt attached to it lately. My stuff is just in play…I am not a professional artist like so many on the challenge. I felt kind of embarrassed posting anything I do after looking around, especially since your work is so great! I really quit doing anything after high school and that is why my stuff reminds me of stuff I did then…I never moved beyond it…Now I am trying to and your blog is GREAT! You never know who you may be inspiring!

    1. Thanks Jen. I’m not a professional artist either. I may be someday. Just make a point of drawing something every day. Even if it’s just the toothpaste tube. You’ll be surprised at the progress you can make when you commit to it.

    1. Thanks Cyndi! I was pleased with how it turned out. I wanted to capture that perpetually melancholic look and I think I did.

  2. I love the vibrant color in your “color experiment”!
This is definitely a great opportunity to set goals and challenges for what you want to accomplish with your art! (I’m also using the challenge to motivate me!)

    1. Thanks for your comment Kristin. Yes, this is a great opportunity. I think the goal I have for this challenge is to be more vulnerable. To post (at least on the FB page) all my drawings, good and bad, and not be discouraged when they don’t turn out as well as I’d like.

  3. These are fantastic! Yes, challenges like these often leave you no time to think or be too fuzzy about your creations, and that’s when you “discover” new ways of creating …. At least for me it’s like that. I hope you’ll also post your overview on your blog 🙂
