Portrait Swap with Cindy Gray

I completed another portrait swap.  This time with artist Cindy Gray.  I met Cindy through Blog Catalog and she suggested that we do a swap.  I was thrilled!  I had a lot of fun doing a swap with Ujwala so I jumped at the chance to do another swap.  You can read about our swap on her blog Draw the Line.  That swap was an artist trading card exchange.  Swapping with Cindy gave me a chance to work larger.

Here is Cindy’s portrait of me.  Wow!

Cindy does lovely work.  Do click on the image to see it in more detail.  She works digitally, then prints it on canvas.  After the canvas is stretched and breathes a bit, she applies acrylic paint to build up texture.  You can read about her process here.  Check out her portfolio as well.

Thanks Cindy for a great experience.  Your portrait is in the mail.

Portrait Swap With Enerene74

enerene74

I was looking through some Flickr contact pages the other day and I came across this drawing of me. Enerene74 used to do a lot of sketches of fellow artists on Flickr. I enjoyed them a lot. Unfortunately he has been busy and not sketching much. I was delighted to see that he made time to do a sketch of me. I think he did a great job capturing my smile.

I did this sketch to return the favor. I am pleased to report that he likes the sketch very much.

Portrait Swap with Ujwala

Portrait Swap - Ujwala

I just completed my first portrait swap. Aside from a little nail biting it went great. My swap was with Ujwala from draw the line. We thought it would be fun to combine a portrait swap for the Portrait Party blog with an ATC exchange. Here is my entry. It took a lot of sketching to get what I thought was a good likeness from the photo that she forwarded to me. Then the challenge was drawing the final image on a 2.5″ x 3.5″ card and working out the tones on her face. I’m really proud of the result.

If you’ve followed Ujwala’s blog you know that she is all about trying new things and challenging herself. For her first ATC she made an acrylic painting. Wow! You can see her painting of me here. She’s inspired me to try painting a few cards myself, and to try a few new techniques to stretch myself more.

So thanks Ujwala! It will be so great to get my card. I’ll have another piece of art for my collection and a souvenir of a great experience.

I would love to do this again. If anyone would like to do a swap with me sometime, let me know.
