ATCs: Attempts at Whimsy

(Click on the thumbnails for larger picture)

I thought I would try to stretch myself and try my hand at something a little more inventive.  I signed up for a swap called Colorful Funky Whimsy People over at atcsforall.com.  I really had a hard time with it.  I sat down and realized how rusty my imagination is.  I was fairly tempted to withdraw from the swap, but I stuck with it.  I’m so glad I did.  This is the first drawing I have done in ages without some sort of reference.  After throwing away a few cards I really hit my stride and came up with these drawings.   My favorite is the lady with the glasses and the cheetah-patterned hat.

  1. These are really fresh and sassy. It looks like you’re having fun!

  2. They are so fun, and full of personality! Good work!

  3. You have captured whimsey to a T here Mellanie. I think that is my favourite too. Love the bright, vivid colours you have used. I admire you for stepping outside your comfort zone too.

  4. These are too cute! I love the colors you used. The captured the middle woman’s personality very well.

Thanks everyone! I’m glad you like these! I’m thinking about doing a leopard-skin pill box hat series. My husband the Bob Dylan fan suggested it. I don’t know though…

  6. You Know Who

Do it girl! These are super fun!
