ATCs: Attempts at Whimsy

(Click on the thumbnails for larger picture)

I thought I would try to stretch myself and try my hand at something a little more inventive.  I signed up for a swap called Colorful Funky Whimsy People over at atcsforall.com.  I really had a hard time with it.  I sat down and realized how rusty my imagination is.  I was fairly tempted to withdraw from the swap, but I stuck with it.  I’m so glad I did.  This is the first drawing I have done in ages without some sort of reference.  After throwing away a few cards I really hit my stride and came up with these drawings.   My favorite is the lady with the glasses and the cheetah-patterned hat.

  1. You have captured whimsey to a T here Mellanie. I think that is my favourite too. Love the bright, vivid colours you have used. I admire you for stepping outside your comfort zone too.

  2. Thanks everyone! I’m glad you like these! I’m thinking about doing a leopard-skin pill box hat series. My husband the Bob Dylan fan suggested it. I don’t know though…
