I made this card for a young woman who goes by Mangosteenskin on Monday Artday ATCs. I love her watercolor illustrations so I asked her for a trade. She’s from Malasyia, so she asked if I would like a portrait card of a girl wearing a Sabahan costume. That sounded great for me and I agreed to do this portrait card forContinue reading “Making Cards and Making Friends”

Everyday Matters Challenge #34: Fall Leaf
It’s been so long since I’ve done one of these Everyday Matters challenges. I really miss them. I have been up to my ears in artist card trading (my own fault) and I haven’t had much time to draw for myself. I had to ask myself, when was the last time I sat down withContinue reading “Everyday Matters Challenge #34: Fall Leaf”
Pencil Portrait Sketch: Emma Watson
I just realized how close we are to the end of the year. I was looking back at the drawings I made this year and came across this sketch I did back in January. I posted it on Flickr but never posted it here. I wonder why, since I like this sketch quite a bit. Continue reading “Pencil Portrait Sketch: Emma Watson”
Ink and Watercolor Wash: Western Tanager
My ink and watercolor exercises continue. I made this artist trading card for a partner who liked birds. I’ve not drawn very many birds, but I’m starting to really enjoy it.
This is our moment. This is our time.
This was such a special election night for me that I decided commemorate it by making a sketch to paste in my journal. I wanted draw him as I saw him at the beginning of the campaign and capture the hope and optimism that he exuded at the beginning of the campaign.
I’m in ArtTrader Magazine!
Participating in all of this art trading is doing a lot for my confidence. I submitted a couple of cards to Art Trader magazine, something I would have never done a year ago. They’ve included the cards in their latest issue. You can download the magazine as pdf. It’s chock full of great-looking mail art, artist interviews,Continue reading “I’m in ArtTrader Magazine!”
ATCs: Still Stretching
Oh my, it’s been a while hasn’t it? Here are some of the better cards I worked on last week. I had signed up for a artist card trading game called a PAT or Pick-a-Theme. People are split into groups of five and each member picks a theme for the other artists to work on. Continue reading “ATCs: Still Stretching”
Ink and Watercolor Wash: Drawing a Crow
The other day I finally had some success with an ink and watercolor wash drawing. Isn’t he pretty? I needed to do a crow card for a trading partner and I decided I would stretch myself a bit and try an ink and watercolor wash.
Portrait Swap with Cindy Gray
I completed another portrait swap. This time with artist Cindy Gray. I met Cindy through Blog Catalog and she suggested that we do a swap. I was thrilled! I had a lot of fun doing a swap with Ujwala so I jumped at the chance to do another swap. You can read about our swap onContinue reading “Portrait Swap with Cindy Gray”
ATCs on Request: Black Panther
I’ve been feeling rather stunned for the past few days. I’ll blame it on all the financial turbulence. I’m having trouble writing, but since this is a drawing blog, why don’t I just post a drawing? I’ve not been drawing much this week, so I’ll just post one of the cards I made not longContinue reading “ATCs on Request: Black Panther”
