Every Day in May: Day 15 – Drawing for Myself – WIP 2

Here’s the second day of work with this drawing I started yesterday.  I’m using india ink instead of just using the gray markers I’ve been using.   I inked the sketch with a brush instead of a pen.  Now I wish I had used a dip pen.  But there will be other opportunities.  It’s coming together. Continue reading “Every Day in May: Day 15 – Drawing for Myself – WIP 2”

Every Day in May: Day 14 – Drawing for Myself – WIP

Yesterday I got out my neglected watercolor moleskine book and set out to do a project just for myself.  Back in February I was looking through photos on Flickr and came across this self-portrait by Dominic Perry .  He gave me permission to use the photo as a reference.   I told him that I wasContinue reading “Every Day in May: Day 14 – Drawing for Myself – WIP”

Every Day in May: Day 13 – Scritchy Sketches

For Day 13 I made these sketches of Michael watching television.  I enjoy doing these scribbles in the evening.  I find it really relaxing.  I grab a pen and try to catch him in some sort of pose before he moves.  I often start three or four poses on the page since he generally willContinue reading “Every Day in May: Day 13 – Scritchy Sketches”

Every Day in May: Day 12 – More ATCs

I’m still working on this dreaded IllustratedAtcs.com PAT.    One of the themes is the Welsh goddess-queen  Rhiannon.  She has a pretty sad tale.   Her child disappeared when she was asleep and her ladies-in-waiting, fearing they would be blamed,  killed a puppy and smeared the blood on Rhiannon while she was sleeping.  They them laid theContinue reading “Every Day in May: Day 12 – More ATCs”

Every Day in May: Day 10 – Orchid Show Drawings

(click the image to see a larger, sharper view) I skipped day nine,  but I’m back on with Day 10.  I went to my first orchid show on Sunday.  I had never been to a flower show and I wanted some new things to draw so I went. I took a few pictures to useContinue reading “Every Day in May: Day 10 – Orchid Show Drawings”

Every Day in May: Day 8 – Pug ATC

After doing a number of sketches last week I finished my friend Robin’s card.   She supplied me with a few pictures of her pug and put this together.  Here are a few sketches I mentioned in another post: My main focus was on the eyes and capturing the guilty expression the dog had.   IContinue reading “Every Day in May: Day 8 – Pug ATC”

Every Day in May: Day 6 – Truck Sketch

I spotted this truck  while taking one of my walks.  I did a few quick sketches and then took a few pictures and worked on it from home.   I haven’t used my watercolor pencils in a while so I played around with them here.  I love these old trucks.   They have so much character.

Every Day in May: Day 5 – White on Black

I managed to finish my last card for an illustratedatcs.com swap.  I was starting to get frantic because, again, I had signed up for too many swaps and taken a ton of requests.  Well, I can now cross one off the list.   *Ah*  That feels better. This little portrait card is simply white colored pencilContinue reading “Every Day in May: Day 5 – White on Black”

Every Day in May – Day 4 – Another Pug Sketch

I’m still doing sketches for an artist trading card for a friend of mine.   I’m working on getting just the right expression.   I’m not really a dog person, but the more I study the reference photos I was given, the more I appreciate this dog.  He’s awfully cute.  Perhaps that’s why I always spend aContinue reading “Every Day in May – Day 4 – Another Pug Sketch”

Every Day In May – Days 1-3

Hurray!  I’m on track for Every Day in May.  Here’s a round-up of drawings I did over the weekend. Friday, May 1: A friend of mine gave me some scratchboard paper cut to ATC size.  It had been sitting on my drawing desk for a few weeks and I finally just dove into it.  I’dContinue reading “Every Day In May – Days 1-3”
