40s Beauty Here are two of my favorite artist trading cards from the stack I made last week. I’ve been making custom cards and drawing cards for themed swaps, but these I made just for fun. I traded the 40s Beauty on the right, but I’ve decided to keep the one on the left. I’mContinue reading “Mysterious Ladies”

A Quick Portrait Sketch
Here’s a sketch of my husband Michael doing his duty as model. He’s such a good sport. I didn’t even have to add an obligation to model in the marriage vows. He just sees the pen and submits. In this sketch he is ignoring me and reading his book.
“You Look Like You Have Indigestion,” he said.
That’s what a friend of mine told me when he saw this picture. You know, he’s right. I like using these water-soluble graphite pencils. I’ve been using the Derwent brand. On this piece I used the HB and 4B pencils. I just love spreading that graphite around with a brush. I found this tutorial onContinue reading ““You Look Like You Have Indigestion,” he said.”
Portrait Swap With Enerene74
I was looking through some Flickr contact pages the other day and I came across this drawing of me. Enerene74 used to do a lot of sketches of fellow artists on Flickr. I enjoyed them a lot. Unfortunately he has been busy and not sketching much. I was delighted to see that he made timeContinue reading “Portrait Swap With Enerene74”
Don’t Know What You’re Doing? Do It Anyway!
graphite and drawing inks Yesterday I sat down to draw and I got out these bottles of ink I had been ignoring ever since I had brought them home. I have been using Copic brush markers for months doing simulated washes on my art cards and drawings. I liked using these markers because I feltContinue reading “Don’t Know What You’re Doing? Do It Anyway!”
Portrait Swap with Ujwala
I just completed my first portrait swap. Aside from a little nail biting it went great. My swap was with Ujwala from draw the line. We thought it would be fun to combine a portrait swap for the Portrait Party blog with an ATC exchange. Here is my entry. It took a lot of sketchingContinue reading “Portrait Swap with Ujwala”
Trading My Cards
Hi there everyone. Last week I started trading my art cards. It’s a blast. I’ve traded almost every card I’ve made. I made a few today. Here are two I made using my new comic book style: I’ve already traded the one on the right. Minutes after I posted it, I had someone offer aContinue reading “Trading My Cards”
On Loosening Up
According to the Flickr “interestingness” scale, this is the fifth most interesting picture in my photostream. I realized I haven’t posted it here. I did this way back in December 2007. I really like this quick pencil sketch. I remember how much I enjoyed doing it. Looking back at this made me realize that IContinue reading “On Loosening Up”
Black and White in the Green Season
Here are the latest entries in my art card series. I’m getting pretty addicted to these. It does seem strange to do these black and white drawings when there is this riot of spring color outside. My neighborhood’s gardens are erupting with new flowers. When I go about my daily walking, all the colors andContinue reading “Black and White in the Green Season”
Meet Mitzi – Another Art Card
I’ve been having a wonderful time working on these little cards. I’ve decided to call this young woman Mitzi. I have no idea why. It just seems to be her name. She’s inspired by Louise Brooks and Clara Bow, two of my favorite silent film stars. Mitzi seems audacious and crafty. You know, the typeContinue reading “Meet Mitzi – Another Art Card”
